Darshan Kumaar, who has acted in many movies and shows over a previous couple of years, including Aashram with Bobby Deol and Prakash Jha, Mary Kom with Priyanka Chopra-Jonas is keenly looking forward to his next, Rakeysh Omprakash Mehra’s Toofan, with Farhan Akhtar. The actor plays the antagonist during this boxing drama that also features Mrunal Thakur.
Talking about his experience of teaming up with Farhan, Darshan says, “I had missed an opportunity to figure with him. I used to be offered Lucknow Central but the dates just didn’t fall under place. This time, I didn’t want to let it pass. I’ve seen Farhan Bhai on the set. When the camera is on, he’s passionately playing his part, and when the camera is off, he’s just like the elder brother who will attempt to make everyone comfortable on the set, ask them if they have something, and make them feel comfortable in his presence. He’s multi-faceted. At times, he would give me suggestions to improvise what I used to be doing. But he would never roll in the hay without a compulsory question, ‘May I suggest something to you here?’ He’s never thrown his weight around.”
Darshan and Farhan play boxers during this drama and were trained by Darrell Foster, who has previously trained several fighters. As long as he wanted the fights to seem real, did a punch from Farhan ever land on Darshan’s face? “Multiple times!” it happened many times, Darshan said. We might show one another the blue marks on our faces and arms which were the results of a strong punch landing there. We couldn’t pretend to fight, we had to fight. Altogether the months that we trained and shot together, I even have just realized how down-to-earth Farhan Bhai is.”
